We are taught by Ms Kelly (Monday to Thursday) and Mrs Baker (Friday), supported by Mrs Crowe and Mrs Roberts.

Reception is part of the Foundation Years 0 to 5 curriculum.  You can find details of the curriculum on the Foundation Years website.

When the children come into Reception, we like them to settle in and become familiar with their new surroundings and routines.  Once this has happened, the Reception staff informally assess each child’s level of development.  This enables them to start to plan appropriate activities according to the children’s needs.

In Reception, we like to achieve a balance between adult-led activities and independent, focused activities.  The staff continually make observations, so this enables them to pitch activities accordingly.

We start to learn phonics and have a daily phonics session.  You can find out more about phonics in the Letters and Sounds Booklet.

Lots of learning takes place through play both inside the classroom and in our outside area.  The staff also move the children on with their reading, writing and mathematical development.  Parents are able to follow their child’s learning via our online learning journal, Tapestry.
