Welcome to Nursery

We are very proud of our Nursery, which is self-contained, warm, safe and secure, and very much a part of our school.

The Nursery is led by an experienced and talented qualified teacher who has created a magical and imaginative learning environment which enables all the children to flourish.  The children are also well supported by a fully qualified and experienced teaching assistant.  Together, these adults ensure the children progress not only socially and emotionally, but academically too.  Our philosophy of right first time ensures that the children achieve highly and are ready for a smooth transition into school.  The Nursery is also able to access the school’s resources, such as the library and lovely outdoor areas.

More information can be found here in our Nursery Booklet.

Children can join our Nursery from the start of the term following their third birthday.  Children whose third birthday falls on or before 31st August can join us in the autumn term; those whose third birthday falls on or before 31st December can join in the spring term; and those whose third birthday falls on or before 31st March can join in the summer term.

If you would like to visit our Nursery, please contact the school office who will be happy to arrange a convenient time for you to look around.  Enquiries about the availability of Nursery places should also be made to the school office.

To make an application for a Nursery place at St John’s, you will need to complete an application form.

St John’s Nursery is open every day during Warwickshire school term times (excluding school Inset days).  Morning sessions run from 9.00am to 12.00pm.  Afternoons are from 12.15pm to 3.15pm and include lunchtime.  Children who attend for a full day or an afternoon will need to bring a healthy packed lunch.

We understand how important it is that parents can have flexibility when organising their child’s nursery provision.  This is why we offer choice in how you use your free entitlement of 15 hours of provision, and also offer options for those requiring more than 15 hours a week.

We ask that the core 15 hours are taken as five mornings, five afternoons, or two full days and a half day (in any combination).  This helps the Nursery team plan their teaching.  Parents and carers who require additional sessions over and above the 15 hours can request these as required and we will do our best to accommodate all requests, subject to availability.

We do request that changes to Nursery attendance patterns only be made at the start of a term (i.e. in September, after Christmas and after Easter).

15 Hours Free Childcare

All families are entitled to 15 hours of funded childcare per week.  We ask that these are taken as five mornings, five afternoons, or two full days and a half day.

30 Hours Free Childcare

Some working parents and carers will be eligible for 30 hours of funded childcare per week.  You can find out more information about this benefit by visiting www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.

Purchase of Additional Nursery Sessions

If you are not eligible for 30 hours funded childcare, there may be the opportunity to purchase additional morning or afternoon sessions at a cost of £12.00 per session, subject to availability.  For those children attending a morning session, there is an option to bring a packed lunch and stay until 1.00pm at a cost of £3.50 per session.  Additional sessions and lunchtimes are invoiced half-termly and can be paid for by childcare voucher, on ParentPay, or by cash or cheque.
