Music

At St John’s Primary School, we believe music is a vital and joyful part of every child’s education. Our intent is to provide all pupils with a rich and inclusive music curriculum that nurtures creativity, expression, and a lifelong love of music. Through the Charanga scheme of work, we aim to ensure that every child has the opportunity to explore and develop musical skills in singing, listening, composing, and performing, while gaining an understanding of musical genres, cultures, and history.

Our music curriculum is designed to be fully inclusive and accessible, allowing children of all backgrounds and abilities to experience success. We aim to develop confident, reflective musicians who can collaborate, communicate, and celebrate their own and others’ musical achievements.

Musical Experience

At St John’s, music is for everyone! Students can take individual lessons through Hot House Music, learning instruments with specialist teachers, and everyone joins in our weekly singing assemblies, where the whole school comes together. Older students can take part in exciting opportunities like Young Voices where they perform on a national stage. While throughout the year, students share their talents in Christmas plays, class assemblies, and special events.
